A commercial oil ship suffered a missile attack and subsequent fire on the evening of Sept. 28, according to reports from maritime security firms and the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The vessel, identified by Lloyd's List as the Al Funtas, is a very large crude carrier (VLCC) managed by the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company that was struck while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The attack occurred north of Khasab, Oman, while the tanker was under US escort in the southern Omani corridor, Ambrey Intelligence reported. The incident followed drone and cruise missile launches from Iran's Qeshm Island, although Iranian state TV later characterized the explosions as warning shots aimed at vessels violating waterway regulations. The crew is safe, the blaze has been extinguished, and the ship is currently underway with no reported environmental impact.
