1 Moldova Prepares Energy State of Emergency After Drone Incursions Rise 875% 🛢️ Commodity Sep 21, 6:16 AM EDT 12/3
President Maia Sandu announced protections for critical infrastructure to prevent disruptions in energy and water supplies ahead of winter. The government is preparing a state of emergency to secure 110 kV interconnections with Romania and expand commercial border capacity to increase electricity imports. Authorities are prioritizing the restoration of energy facilities and the closure of cybersecurity vulnerabilities to mitigate risks from potential hostile actions, while building gas reserves and stocks of petroleum products.
Unauthorized drone incursions rose 875% from 4 in 2022 to 39 in 2026, with two separate violations occurring on Sept. 21. One unidentified object crossed the border from Ukraine's Odesa region at 12:34, while another is believed to have crashed in the Briceni area. Moldova ceased gas purchases from Russia in 2022, leaving the nation reliant on alternative supply routes and state-funded compensation payments for households to offset energy prices.
