Fires from a Sept. 20 Ukrainian drone attack damaged both primary distillation units at Gazprom Neft’s Moscow refinery, stopping all crude processing, Reuters reported, citing three industry sources. The units, AVT-6 and Euro+, account for 100% of its primary processing capacity. Repairs could take several weeks.

The refinery has capacity to process about 245,000 barrels a day and is a key fuel supplier for the Moscow region. The strike was part of a broader attack that hit the capital and surrounding region on the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections. Russian authorities reported at least two deaths in the region. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Ukrainian forces had hit an oil industry facility and a logistics site.

Russia plans to extend its ban on most diesel exports beyond the end of September as attacks on its refineries continue, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the deliberations. The duration remains undecided, with an extension of another month or longer under discussion.
