Equity trading is now available for AI agents through an update to the Coinbase for Agents platform. The tool allows agents to trade more than 6,000 stocks, expanding existing capabilities for cryptocurrency and derivatives via Coinbase Capital Markets Corporation. The expansion introduces the first fully custodial x402 integration, which enables agents to purchase live market data and analysis mid-task using USDC balances.

The x402 payment feature is restricted to users in the U.S. and specific data endpoints, removing the need for monthly subscriptions for agents. Coinbase Capital Markets Corporation is a member of FINRA and SIPC, though digital asset services provided by Coinbase Inc. are not subject to SIPC protection. The company stated that users direct all agent activity and assume all risk for executed transactions, as AI agents may fail or make mistakes.
