Autonomous software can now perform market research and execute financial trades through a dedicated brokerage integration. The Coinbase for Agents platform allows these AI assistants to trade more than 6,000 stocks, cryptocurrencies, and derivatives, while utilizing a user's USDC balance to fund transactions. This includes the use of x402 micropayments, which enable agents to pay for live market data and analytics mid-task, eliminating the need for traditional subscriptions.

CEO Brian Armstrong described the a-la-carte data access as part of an 'everything exchange' for agents that is compatible with assistants such as Muse. The x402 payment feature is currently limited to users in the United States. To address potential operational failures, Coinbase requires users to direct all agent activity and assume all liability for transactions and third-party data usage.
