Chief Executive Officer Gracy Chen announced that the cryptocurrency exchange will restore its security protection fund to a $300M baseline within seven days. To facilitate the return of customer assets, the firm has shifted 2,042.28 BTC, valued at approximately $169M, from that fund into operational hot wallets. Bitget confirmed that all user account balances remained unaffected by the September 24 security breach that caused a $388M loss.
The exchange reopened Bitcoin withdrawals on the mainnet and Binance Smart Chain at 08:00 UTC on September 28. This phased restoration of services for other assets, including Ethereum and Tether, will be complete by October 2. Bitget has since processed 6,878 withdrawal requests for 3,298 BTC and stated that the original vulnerability has been patched to prevent further unauthorized transfers.
