Internal records containing personal information on nearly every employee and job applicant at the Federal Bureau of Investigation were stolen in a breach by the hacking group ShinyHunters. The attackers targeted the bureau's Human Resources, Medlink, and Criminal Justice databases and gave Director Kash Patel and Assistant Director Brett Leatherman one week to remove a Quarter 2 2026 FLASH report. ShinyHunters also defaced the FBI Jobs landing page, which the bureau subsequently reverted to a maintenance screen.

A sample of 5,000 alleged records including names, phone numbers, physical addresses, and spouse information was shared with journalist Joseph Cox. The hack is presented as a non-financial retaliation for the FBI's report, which the group claims wrongly labeled them as perpetrators of swatting and sextortion. The FBI has not confirmed the extent of the breach or the authenticity of the data.
