The Federal Bureau of Investigation is probing a breach of its networks following reports that a cybercriminal organization accessed files for thousands of agent and job seeker records. The attack, which took place on Monday, involved the temporary defacement of the bureau's recruitment website. The hacking group ShinyHunters claimed to have obtained home addresses, phone numbers, and spouse details from the agency's Criminal Justice, HR, and Medlink databases, as well as data on nearly every agent.

ShinyHunters stated that the intrusion was retaliation for an FBI FLASH report from the second quarter of 2026 that the group claimed contained falsehoods. A security analyst suggested the attack leveraged CVE-2026-35273, a vulnerability with a CVSS score of 9.8 that CISA added to its Known Exploited list on June 11. The FBI has confirmed it is aware of unauthorized activity affecting its jobs website and is currently investigating the matter.
