US federal agents took custody of Roger Mariaca on Thursday after a summary transfer from Bolivian authorities. The government delivered the chief prosecutor to the Drug Enforcement Administration without a judicial order, following a Wednesday sweep in which police arrested Mariaca and raided the prosecutor's offices in Sucre to seize records and evidence.

Washington revoked Mariaca's visa on Monday, accusing him of taking bribes to protect criminals and facilitate drug trafficking. While police reported finding bundles of cash being smuggled from his residence in an ambulance, Mariaca denied the allegations as political pressure intended to halt his probe into Fernando Cerimedo, an Argentinian consultant linked to Donald Trump Junior.
