Iran’s Tasnim News, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, accused Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of meeting US envoy Steve Witkoff without approval from the country’s policymaking bodies, including the Supreme National Security Council. The agency cited council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei as saying Araghchi was authorized only to convey Iran’s seven conditions through mediators. It called the contact a “major error” and demanded an explanation. Rezaei said no breakthrough had occurred.

President Donald Trump described Tuesday’s three hours of talks in New York during the UN General Assembly as “very good” and “very productive,” saying another meeting was scheduled in the near future. Witkoff subsequently described the discussions as indirect, with mediators shuttling between delegations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said IRGC leaders were impeding talks.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran conveyed its conditions through a Qatari mediator, including an end to the war on all fronts, the naval blockade and economic warfare, as well as the release of Iranian assets. A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran was reviewing the US response to its proposal to end hostilities. Iran had offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if Washington eased military pressure and lifted its port blockade.
