US Trade Representative James Greer announced that Washington and Beijing have established a new arrangement for the trade of specific goods following the Washington summit between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping. While Trump described the talks as very productive, US Ambassador to China Perdue confirmed that the US has not changed its stance on Taiwan. The US continues to not support Taiwan independence, rejecting a request from Xi for the US to officially oppose independence instead.

A trade truce between the two nations has been extended for 2 months. On artificial intelligence, Trump proposed renaming the field "Super Intelligence" and claimed both leaders agreed to the term, though Xi emphasized that AI must remain under human control. The leaders will meet again in November for APEC in Shenzhen and in December for the G20 in Miami. Xi also expressed support for the US and Iran returning to their Memorandum of Understanding talks.
