Donald Trump stated that China has treated the US fairly over recent years during a discussion regarding the possible cancellation of a diplomatic meeting. The president indicated he is not worried that President Xi Jinping will call off the Sept 24 summit at the White House, despite a warning from Beijing that new weapons sales to Taiwan are a "red line."

China told the US it intends to completely cancel the visit if any new arms sales to Taiwan are approved before the summit date. The meeting serves as a venue for Trump to directly demand that China stop doing business with Iran, a trade relationship Beijing has repeatedly defended.
