Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York for talks that President Donald Trump said lasted three hours. Iran's state broadcaster said Tehran used the meeting to demand the immediate lifting of the US naval blockade, release of all frozen Iranian assets and an end to fighting across all “resistance fronts” as conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump described the meeting as “very productive” and said another was scheduled “in the very near future.” Witkoff said, “I feel very good right now.” Iran's state broadcaster said the meeting took place at Washington's request. Qatar's prime minister attended most of the discussion, which covered resuming negotiations and reopening Hormuz but produced no agreement on contentious issues, Israel Hayom reported, citing US sources.

Earlier Tuesday, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Iran could reopen the strait within seven days if the US eased military pressure and lifted its blockade of Iranian ports. The proposal was delivered through mediators on Sept. 16, the official said. Brent and US crude futures fell more than 1% after Kyodo reported the conditional offer.
