Federal prosecutors filed charges against five individuals linked to a Russian intelligence services network for financing terrorism and plotting assassinations within the U.S. FBI agents disrupted the operation, which aimed to kill U.S. residents and target those providing support to Ukraine.

The operatives received payments to surveil dissidents and planned attacks against military and civilian infrastructure in European nations. U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald said the Justice Department will not tolerate state sponsored violence commissioned by foreign actors on American soil.
