Polyphron Raises $20 Million Seed to Model Human Tissue Biology

Quiet Capital led the initial investment in Polyphron, a startup creating AI systems to physically replicate biological human tissue. Former Google DeepMind researcher VQ Tran joins co-founders Matthew Osman and Fabio ZB to create a laboratory in New York City focused on producing tissues that match human drug responses and recover organ function upon transplantation.

The company raised $20 million in seed financing with participation from Gradient VC and Haystack. Polyphron uses reinforcement learning to develop biological recipes, rewarding the AI based on the functionality of the resulting tissue. Tran departs the AI unit after a 10 year tenure to launch the venture.
