Polyphron Raises $20 Million Seed With Former Google DeepMind Talent to Grow Human Tissue

Quiet Capital led the initial funding round for Polyphron, an AI startup developing models to autonomously reproduce human tissue biology. The New York City based company raised $20 million with participation from Gradient VC to recruit former Google DeepMind researcher VQ Tran as a co-founder. Tran joins Matthew Osman and Fabio ZB to apply reinforcement learning to the growth of functional tissues after 10 years at Google.

The lab focuses on creating biological tissues designed to replicate human responses to drugs and potentially restore organ function after transplantation. The technical approach iterates on growth recipes using reinforcement learning, rewarding the models based on the functionality of the resulting tissue to optimize computational biology outcomes.
