An end-to-end system designed by the company manages quantum error correction without pausing execution, maintaining a processing delay of just 0.02%. The decoder operates on a single standard CPU and supports simulations of 408 logical qubits and more than 31.5 million quantum operations. By utilizing conventional processors, IonQ claims it has created the industry's first real-time decoder that allows systems to scale without adding massive amounts of classical hardware.
The technology supports the Walking Cat architecture and the company's roadmap to control thousands of qubits, though benchmarks were simulated on a proposed architecture of 11,680 physical qubits. Shares of IonQ rose 11% in pre-market trading following the announcement.
