Bipartisan Lawmakers Renew Push to Block Kennedy Center Demolition

A new effort by members of Congress from both parties is underway to prevent the destruction of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, according to Reuters. This coordinated push follows a failed attempt on Monday night in the Senate, where Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) used an objection to block a bipartisan resolution that would have banned the demolition of various presidential memorials.

President Trump continues to refuse to rule out tearing down the Edward Durell Stone-designed Modernist building while a legal battle over his request to add his name to the structure continues. The center closed last month amid the dispute; since Trump's name was added to the building, gifts to the institution plunged 42% and donation pledges dropped more than 100%.
