Homeland Security Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are leading the probe into the officer involved shooting.

Attorney Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch claims Perez entered the U.S. lawfully and previously held a valid work permit, contradicting DHS assertions that he entered illegally and faced a final order of removal. Protesters gathered at Anderson Square and Research Boulevard following the incident, where Texas Department of Public Safety troopers fired pepper balls to disperse the crowd. U.S. lawmakers are demanding the release of body camera footage and an independent investigation.
