CNN, MS NOW and Politico are suing President Donald Trump and senior officials to restore White House access, seeking a temporary restraining order after their journalists’ access was terminated Sept. 18. The outlets announced the First Amendment lawsuit Monday. “Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalists’ credentials because it objected to our reporting,” they said in a joint statement.

Trump announced the ban Friday, saying it took effect immediately. Asked to justify the decision, he said: “Because they're fake news. There may be others to join them.” Reporters were denied entry Saturday, including CNN’s Betsy Klein, whose press pass was seized, and MS NOW’s Akayla Gardner, who said an officer told her that her badge had been disabled.

The White House also removed CNN from its Monday assignment as the television pool representative for the entire White House press corps. CNN’s Brian Stelter reported that the exclusion created uncertainty about coverage of Trump’s trip to New York that day.
