The Council on American-Islamic Relations has filed a lawsuit to halt the state from enforcing a recent vote that targets several political and religious bodies. Florida's Cabinet designated CAIR, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Antifa, along with dozens of other groups, as terrorist organizations, a move that could lead to funding restrictions, penalties for material support and possible dissolution proceedings.

The designations rely on an anti-sharia law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this year and represent a legal step no other U.S. state has taken. The measures were announced on September 29 and now face a legal challenge in federal court.
