Raskin Seeks Federal Probe Into Trump's $20M Taxpayer Funded Ads

Representative Jamie Raskin is urging a government inquiry into the Trump administration's use of public funds to broadcast television commercials featuring the president. The administration allocated $20 million for the effort, shifting the money from the Office of Management and Budget to Customs and Border Protection on Sept. 19. CBP سپس awarded a $20 million contract on Sept. 20 for a national media campaign that began airing on Sept. 23 across networks including CNN and MS NOW.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has declined to review the advertisements, stating they are within standard practice for government public service announcements. However, critics including Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) have likened the ads to political messaging used by Viktor Orbán in Hungary. Watchdog groups and some administration aides have alleged the use of taxpayer money for campaign style propaganda is illegal, with one former ethics attorney describing the action as a potential impeachable offense.
