1 Supreme Court Authorizes Trump to Resume Third Country Deportations 🇺🇸 US Politics Sep 24, 4:39 PM EDT 59/36
The Trump administration has received legal clearance to revive its policy of sending non-citizens to third party nations for removal following a ruling from the US high court. The decision pauses a lower court injunction that had blocked the practice on the grounds that it violated the due process rights of migrants being sent to countries where they often have no citizenship or ties.
The US government has struck agreements with 35 countries to accept deportees as part of a push to conduct the largest deportation operation in American history. Since January 2025, officials have removed more than 25,000 people to at least 28 nations, including 20,000 sent by bus to Mexico and 5,000 flown to Central Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. While the administration says the program targets criminals, those removed include refugees from Ghana and Iran.
