Troy Jackson Leads Susan Collins 46.4% to 45.6% in First Poll After Bribery Story

The race for Maine's US Senate seat is separated by less than 1 percentage point following reports of corruption involving the incumbent Republican. An Insider Advantage survey of likely voters conducted Sept. 22-23 found Democratic candidate Troy Jackson with 46.4% support and Susan Collins at 45.6%. This is the first poll released since ProPublica published a story regarding bribery allegations against Collins.

The new data follows a split trend in recent polling, as a University of New Hampshire survey from Sept. 17-21 put Jackson ahead 51% to 47%, while a Sept. 15-22 NYT/Siena poll favored Collins 49% to 46%. Collins is a five term incumbent and the only Republican senator from a state that Donald Trump did not win in his three campaigns. Jackson was nominated by the Democratic Party via convention after a scandal involving the previous nominee, Graham Platner; Democrats have not won a Senate seat in Maine since 1988.
