1 US Court Bars Trump from Naming Institute of Peace Building 🇺🇸 US Politics Sep 29, 7:20 AM EDT 27/18
A legal dispute over the branding of federal landmarks has resulted in a victory for the Institute of Peace, as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled that President Trump cannot put his name on the facility. The decision is the latest in a series of challenges to the president's efforts to rename government buildings in Washington.
The ruling follows a parallel naming conflict at the Kennedy Center, which has been closed since last month. Due to the ongoing dispute and Trump's refusal to rule out demolishing the riverfront site, the 2026 Kennedy Center Honors will be held for the first time off-site at the Capital One Arena. The conflict has already caused donations to the center to plunge 42% and pledges to drop over 100%, while Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) recently blocked a Senate bid to ban the demolition of presidential memorials.
