President Donald Trump intends to sign a new sanctions package targeting Moscow's energy exports as early as Sept. 18. It grants the president authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on the top five importers of Russian energy.

India's foreign ministry warned that the bill could damage bilateral ties and disrupt global energy markets, though it vowed to maintain diversified sourcing. The final House vote of 262-159 saw 58 Democrats break with party leadership to support the act, which also extends the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996 through 2031 and targets Russia's shadow fleet of tankers used to circumvent existing Western sanctions.
