CNN, MS NOW and Politico requested an emergency court hearing Thursday after journalists from all three outlets were denied White House entry despite an order immediately restoring their access. Their filing said Secret Service agents also confiscated press passes that had not already been seized. “Defendants have already repeatedly violated the Court’s Order,” the outlets said, requesting a hearing that morning.

US District Judge Timothy Kelly issued a temporary restraining order blocking the ban for 14 days, finding the outlets were likely to succeed on their Fifth Amendment due process claims. The journalists “did not receive notice and an opportunity to be heard” before their credentials were revoked, he wrote. Kelly also rejected the administration’s national security justification at this stage, finding little factual support that revoking the credentials would protect national security. President Donald Trump had banned the outlets the previous week over coverage he called “fake news” and “fiction and lies.”

CNN’s Betsy Klein and a photojournalist were turned away around 6 a.m., and MS NOW correspondent Laura Barrón-López was also denied entry. One CNN producer later gained access. The dispute has disrupted television coverage: ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox declined to replace CNN’s assigned White House pool crew Monday, suspending the networks’ shared coverage. The White House print pool reported Thursday morning that there was still no network pool camera.
