The White House readmitted journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico on Thursday under a court order blocking President Donald Trump’s ban for 14 days. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly found the outlets were likely to succeed in showing their press passes had been revoked without “constitutionally adequate due process.” The Justice Department had defended the ban on national security grounds.

Reporters from all three outlets were initially turned away Thursday morning despite the overnight order, prompting the news organizations to request an emergency hearing. Their lawyers said Secret Service agents also confiscated press passes that had not previously been seized. CNN regained entry at noon, and all three outlets later confirmed access to the White House grounds.

The television pool remained suspended even after the journalists returned. CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News were awaiting White House confirmation that CNN could fulfill its future pool duties, a separate issue from access to the grounds. The pool had not filmed any of Trump’s events with Chinese President Xi Jinping that day, CNN reported. Chinese state media were present for the visit while reporters from the barred US outlets were still being denied entry.
