1 White House Cites ‘Professionalism’ to Defend CNN, MS NOW and Politico Bans 🇺🇸 US Politics Sep 24, 6:59 PM EDT 600/117
The White House is citing “professionalism” standards to defend its ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico as the NAACP joins groups opposing the restrictions in court. The defense follows a Justice Department request late Friday to let President Donald Trump reinstate the ban by rejecting the outlets’ bid for longer protection of their access.
US District Judge Timothy Kelly will hear arguments at 11 a.m. ET on Oct. 8, when his 14 day temporary restraining order expires. Kelly ordered the outlets’ credentials restored on Sept. 24, finding they were likely to succeed on their claim that the passes were revoked without constitutionally adequate due process. He also found little factual support at that stage for the administration’s national security justification.
The NAACP’s court motion cites statistics showing Black Americans trust CNN, MS NOW and Politico at higher rates than White Americans. A separate brief filed this week by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press drew support from 77 media organizations, up from 49 on its previous brief.
