Federal troops have neutralized opposition gains in northern Ethiopia and shifted to an offensive against the Alliance for Survival coalition. The Ethiopian National Defence Force is now coordinating a multi pronged attack toward the Tigrayan regional capital of Mekele after successfully repelling a rebel push in the northern regions.

The offensive comes as a coalition of the TPLF and six other armed groups seeking to remove Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed carries out a nationwide drone campaign to stretch government forces. An opposition-linked source claimed these operations include the first known drone strikes on Addis Ababa, with explosions reported near the defence ministry. The conflict, the most severe since the 2022 Pretoria agreement, has displaced about 150,000 people and led Ethiopia to expel 10 Eritrean diplomats and close its embassy in Eritrea.
