Five Palestinians died and six others were severely injured when an Israeli missile struck the Al-Asala building in Gaza City's Rimal neighborhood early Saturday. The Israel Defense Forces targeted Ali al-Amoudi, the deputy head of Hamas's political bureau and the most senior official in the Strip, though the military has not yet confirmed the result of the operation. The dead include a 21-year-old man and four women, including a Christian mother and daughter, and a doctor and her mother, according to local medical staff and media.

The attack occurred despite a ceasefire that has been in place since Oct 10, 2025. Palestinian authorities report approximately 1,500 deaths and 5,000 injuries resulting from Israeli strikes since that agreement took effect. Israel currently maintains control over 60% of the Gaza Strip and has established more than a dozen new military outposts since the ceasefire began.
