Russian drones hit gas stations, railway areas and communications infrastructure in Kyiv on Wednesday morning, including strikes near the central railway station during the commuter rush. Two people were killed and 25 injured, with 17 hospitalized, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. President Volodymyr Zelensky said many of the drones were jet-powered and that cities and communities in eight regions also came under attack.

A railway worker was injured near Kyiv’s central station, though the main station building was not damaged, railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia said. An Ukrnafta gas station was also hit, the sixth attack on the company’s facilities in recent weeks. No employees were hurt because staff were in shelters, Naftogaz reported. In Zaporizhzhia, a strike injured two men and set fire to 6,000 square meters of a shopping mall. A drone strike near Odesa gutted a warehouse storing children’s toys.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its overnight strikes in Kyiv and the surrounding region targeted facilities storing materials and producing components for drones. Zelensky said Russia was targeting civilian and critical infrastructure, including pharmaceutical facilities and shopping malls. He called for continued support for Ukraine during meetings at the UN General Assembly and sanctions signaling to Russia and its oligarchs that “the war must be ended, not simply waited out.”
