1 Saudi Coalition Strikes Sanaa for First Time Since Fighting Resumed ⚔️ War Oct 1, 4:13 PM EDT 38/20
Explosions rocked the Houthi-controlled capital of Yemen on Oct 1 as coalition aircraft targeted high-value positions across Sanaa and the governorates of Saada, Taiz and Amran. These air raids, which caused large fires across the city, were the first missions involving aircraft in Sanaa since fighting resumed, though this marked the 2nd time the city had been struck in two weeks. The internationally recognized government of Yemen claimed responsibility for the operations, stating its forces would not abandon the city of Taiz.
The escalation followed a surge in Houthi attacks against Saudi territory, including 2 ballistic missiles and 4 drones intercepted over Khamis Mushait and Jizan on Oct 1. An additional ballistic missile was shot down over Khamis Mushait on Oct 2, according to Saudi authorities. The Houthi-affiliated Saba news agency described the coalition air raids as "Saudi aggression" as the conflict between the Iran-backed group and the Saudi-backed government intensifies.
