The Russian Ministry of Defense announced drone strikes against the data centers of Omega Telecom and Kyivstar, the largest mobile and internet provider in Ukraine. Based in Kyiv, the targeted facilities are alleged to provide networking and database storage for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Following the attacks, Russia's military posted a "digital detox" meme, indicating a strategic intent to sever civilian and military connectivity.

The operation is part of a nearly 3 week offensive that has hit 11 data centers, including 10 in Kyiv and one in Dnipro, using Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet-powered drones deployed by Russia's Varyag drone unit. Previous strikes on providers such as Datagroup and Cosmonova disrupted internet for roughly 100,000 Kyiv residents and knocked several television and news channels offline. Russia claims the Cosmonova site was used to facilitate Starlink communications for the Ukrainian military.
