Russian drone strikes killed a woman in Lozova in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region and injured three others overnight into Sept. 21, while five people were injured in Zaporizhzhia. Russia launched 172 drones during the night, with President Volodymyr Zelensky saying attacks hit 10 regions.

In Zaporizhzhia, strikes hit residential buildings, a shopping center, a boiler house and Zaporizhzhia National University, where a historic building dating to 1903 was gutted. Some residents were evacuated. Strikes damaged 34 sites across five districts in the Kyiv region, including homes, warehouses and infrastructure. Food warehouses in the Odesa region were also hit, reportedly belonging to the Silpo supermarket chain.

Ukrainian drones struck Bashneft’s Ufaneftekhim oil refinery in Ufa on Sept. 21, sparking a large fire, while the attack prompted a temporary suspension of operations at the local airport. That followed the Sept. 19-20 barrage that damaged Moscow’s Kapotnya oil refinery and killed at least two people elsewhere in the Moscow region, Russian authorities said. Russia’s Defense Ministry said Ukraine launched 1,951 drones and eight missiles into Russian territory that night. Zelensky confirmed strikes on an oil industry facility and a logistics site in the Moscow region.
