Trump Administration Approves Record $2.8 Billion Heavy Bomb Sale to Israel

Forty thousand munitions weighing 2,000 pounds each are headed to the Israeli military following an authorization for the transfer by the Trump administration. This shipment, which includes 20,000 MK-84s and 20,000 BLU-117s, will be funded by U.S. taxpayer dollars. The package also provides 20,000 I-2000 Penetrator warheads for bunker-busting operations and is the largest single order of its kind in recent years.

House Foreign Affairs Ranking Member Gregory Meeks announced he will not clear the $2.8 billion sale, introducing a congressional hold on the munitions. The proposal surpasses previous transfers from both the Biden and Trump administrations, including a $2.04 billion sale in 2025. The deal now moves to Congress for approval, where over 100 House Democrats previously voted to cut Israel aid in July.
