Washington authorized the transfer of 20,000 MK-84 and 20,000 BLU-117 munitions to Tel Aviv in a transaction paid for by US taxpayers. The $2.8 billion package includes an additional 20,000 I-2000 penetrator warheads and totals 40,000 bombs that weigh 2,000 pounds each. This shipment is one of the largest ammunition deliveries the US has provided to the Israeli government.

The volume of these 2,000 pound munitions exceeds previous transfers made under both the Biden and Trump administrations. MK-84 bombs have drawn scrutiny for civilian casualties in Lebanon and Gaza, specifically in areas designated as safe for Palestinians.
