1 US Quits UN Human Rights Council After UN Finds War Crimes Killing 178 in Iran ⚔️ War Sep 17, 9:21 PM EDT 33/20
The United States officially exited the UN Human Rights Council on Sept 18, citing systemic bias and hypocrisy within the organization. A UN fact-finding mission concluded there were reasonable grounds to believe the US committed war crimes in Iran during air strikes on Feb. 28. The attacks killed more than 178 people, including 120 children, after missiles hit a primary school in Minab and a sports complex in Lamerd.
The State Department rejected the report's findings and said Washington does not give credibility to the probe's results. A Tomahawk missile strike on the Minab school killed over 150 people, and a separate attack on a residential sports facility killed 22 civilians. The US decision to withdraw followed allegations from the mission that the strikes hit clearly identifiable civilian areas and lacked proper verification.
