UN Mission Finds US Committed War Crimes in 2 Iran Strikes and Tehran Committed Crimes Against Humanity

A UN-backed team of human rights experts concluded that military hits on a school and sports facility in February were targeted at civilians. These actions by the US constituted war crimes, according to an independent probe that also accused Iranian security forces of crimes against humanity. The investigators identified "reasonable grounds" to believe that air strikes on non-military locations were carried out by US forces.

The report submitted to the UN Human Rights Council detailed mass killings, torture, and arbitrary detentions across all 31 provinces during nationwide protests from 2025 to 2026. At least 221 children were killed in the Iranian government's crackdown, with tens of thousands of other protesters detained in what the mission described as an unprecedented escalation of repression.
