The US will convey Ukraine’s proposal for a mutual halt to attacks on energy infrastructure to Moscow, President Volodymyr Zelensky said after meeting Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. “We are ready for an energy ceasefire if they do not attack our energy system, our electricity, heating, and water supply,” Zelensky said. He said he did not know Russia’s position on the proposal.

The offer follows a Sunday call in which Trump pressed Zelensky to stop attacks on Russian refineries over concerns about global diesel shortages and rising prices, the Financial Times reported. US diesel prices reached a record average of $6.51 a gallon, according to AAA. After Tuesday’s meeting, Zelensky said Trump had not asked Ukraine to halt energy strikes unilaterally.

Zelensky also requested a winter package of Patriot missiles, licenses to produce them in Ukraine and security guarantees. American and Ukrainian teams are working toward launching Patriot interceptor production in Ukraine, and Zelensky said the project could take a year to a year and a half. He urged Trump to organize a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and to engage Chinese President Xi Jinping, citing Xi’s influence on Putin.
