The Thai administration has suspended the operation of various state buildings and paused the publication of official macroeconomic figures following a series of intense storms. These rains caused an estimated $320 million in flood damages across all 50 districts of Bangkok, which were formally declared disaster zones. The deluge overwhelmed urban drainage systems and shut down 24 main roads, forcing thousands of residents into emergency shelters.

Approximately 52,000 households were affected by the rainfall, which totaled nearly 12 inches over a 48 hour period—roughly a month's worth of precipitation in one weekend. While floodwaters have begun to recede, 4,900 people remain in evacuation centers and one person died from electrocution. Authorities have since expanded evacuation orders to an eastern province as reservoirs there continue to swell.
