An extremely powerful cyclone is tracking toward the Baja California Peninsula and will arrive early next week. Hurricane Polo has intensified into a Category 5 storm, bringing sudden downpours and crashing waves to the coast of Colima in southwestern Mexico, and the National Hurricane Center has advised interests in Baja California Sur to monitor its progress.

The system is one of the most powerful Pacific cyclones in decades and is the 3rd Category 5 hurricane observed in the ocean this season. Although it is forecast to weaken, the storm will remain a strong hurricane as it turns north after forming southwest of Mexico on Tuesday.
