NOAA Hurricane Hunters recorded wind speeds of 180 mph in the eyewall of Hurricane Polo shortly before the system's intensity decreased. The storm is now a Category 4 hurricane tracking toward the Pacific coast of North America, with the National Hurricane Center forecasting landfall in Baja California Sur on Monday.

The cyclone, one of the most intense Pacific storms in decades, peaked as a Category 5 and is the third such storm this season. Since forming Tuesday, it has triggered port closures and school suspensions along the southwestern coast of Mexico, bringing heavy rain and high waves to the state of Colima.
