Severe floods and widespread power outages struck Mexico's western coast on Monday as the storm's eyewall crossed the shoreline. The National Hurricane Center reported that Hurricane Polo has officially made landfall on the Baja California peninsula, bringing dangerous winds and life-threatening flash floods, with conditions expected to deteriorate in the state of Sonora early today.

The cyclone is projected to traverse the peninsula and make a second landfall on the Mexican mainland before moving north. While the system will likely lose its hurricane status before reaching the United States, its remnants are expected to bring dangerous flash flood potential to the American Southwest from Tuesday through Friday.
