More than 4,000 displaced people are staying in temporary shelters after heavy rainfall overwhelmed the drainage systems of Thailand's capital. The government deployed over 10,000 troops to Bangkok to lead evacuation efforts for residents trapped in floodwaters that inundated major roads and residential areas.

The mobilization follows a disaster declaration for all 50 districts in the city after nearly 300mm of rain fell over 48 hours. At least one person died from electrocution while wading through the water, and officials have increased canal drainage operations as water levels have begun to recede.
