A legal battle over the naming of a prominent Washington arts venue has kept the facility shut since last month. The 2026 Kennedy Center Honors will be held at Capital One Arena because the primary riverfront building is currently unavailable. President Trump refuses to rule out the demolition of the modernist structure while the court system determines whether his name can be added to the building.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) used an objection Monday night to block a bipartisan Senate resolution that would have banned the demolition of presidential memorials. The naming dispute has already caused a 42% plunge in gifts to the institution, and donation pledges dropped more than 100% after earlier commitments were withdrawn following the addition of Trump's name.
