1 Western Nations Plan Embassy Exit From Kyiv Following Bridge Strikes ⚔️ War Oct 1, 5:31 AM EDT 71/36
Diplomatic missions from several foreign governments are drafting plans to move their operations from the Ukrainian capital to Lviv or eastern Poland. The potential relocation follows a series of systematic strikes by Russia on the city's transport infrastructure, The Guardian reports. Ukrainian officials have confirmed the capital is facing a transport collapse after multiple strikes paralyzed crossings over the Dnipro river.
Russia targeted the Pivdennyi Bridge at least 3 times on October 1 and 2 using Geran 5 jet drones equipped with new cumulative warheads and cutter charges designed to destroy support beams. The attacks closed the bridge to road and metro traffic and disrupted the Paton and Metro bridges, forcing some residents to walk to work. One man died and at least 15 people were injured when a separate strike hit a 25 story residential building in the Darnytskyi district. Ukraine's air defenses neutralized 88 of the 108 drones launched in the overnight assault.
